3 Reasons You Should Wear Gloves as an HVAC Technician

As an HVAC Technician, your hands are your livelihood. Protecting them should be a top priority, along with your eyes, whenever you’re on the job.

In order to protect your hands from sharp objects, refrigerant burns, and electricity, use the right kind of gloves. There are plenty of ways to stay safe while staying safe. In case you need more convincing, here are 3 reasons you should wear gloves as an HVAC technician:

  1. Stopping Cuts

It’s not hard to imagine getting a gash from sheet metal duct work or installing a furnace in an old attic. As an HVAC technician, your hands come in contact with many different materials than can puncture skin or cause abrasions. They can also prevent the transfer or viruses like warts or infections.

  1. Keeping Away Dangerous Chemicals

On the job, you’ll come across many different potentially dangerous chemicals, especially refrigerants. When handled incorrectly, they can have some nasty consequences. Think about the cleaning fluids and combustable materials you encounter every week. Using protective gloves will help you avoid burns and other unfortunate scenarios. Remember to always follow the proper procedure when handling and moving chemicals.

  1. Avoiding Shock

Unless you’ve been at this for a half century, you’re not always familiar with all the electrical equipment you encounter. It’s important to always be cautious around potentially hazardous electrical equipment, especially when water is involved. Use gloves as an added precaution when handling electric equipment to avoid the risk of electric shock.

Good luck, and don’t forget to grab a pair of gloves if you haven’t already!
